Areas of application
Electromagnets form their magnetic field after the application of a current and are not magnetic without current. As we learn in school, when a current flows through a magnetic conductor, a weak magnetic field forms around it.
The modern electromagnet consists of a coil (the magnetic conductor) that is wound around a ferromagnetic material to intensify the magnetic field that is created. The coil is installed in a steel pot and enclosed in a sealing compound. The protective steel pot is also magnetically conductive and guides the field lines of the magnetic field to the free holding surface.
Electromagnets are indispensable in today's industry. The ability to generate a strong magnetic field at the push of a button is used in a variety of industries:
- Material handling: Electromagnets are indispensable tools for industrial material handling because they can effortlessly lift and transport ferromagnetic loads such as steel plates or metal beams.
