Neodymium magnet systems
Incredibly strong and versatile: neodymium pot magnets are classic industrial magnets.
In the Magna-C magnet shop, you will find a wide selection of different magnet systems: round pot magnets with a thread, flat strips, and magnets with a hook or eyelet.
The neodymium flat gripper is the best-known type of magnet system. It is very flat and is mainly used in industrial applications. These industrial magnets are used to transport steel and iron parts. The magnetism “grabs” these and they can be moved quickly and reliably – hence the term flat gripper.
With over 50 years of experience in the magnet industry, Magna-C has optimized our range of pot magnets and other magnet systems. We offer a wide selection of dimensions and mounting options, all certified according to TÜV ISO 9001.

The difference between a neodymium pot magnet and a raw magnet
What makes a magnet a magnet system and why can't we just use a normal neodymium raw magnet? We speak of a neodymium pot magnet when the raw magnet is surrounded by a steel cup or a U-profile made of steel. The raw magnet is always slightly smaller than the steel cup and is glued to the center of it. The free edges are then filled with epoxy or a plastic ring. This step is very important, as the magnet should only be in contact with the steel cup at the back. If it were to be flush with the edges, a magnetic short circuit would occur. In the case of a magnetic short circuit, the field lines are completely absorbed by the steel casing and the intended holding surface no longer has any adhesive force.
This brings us to a key advantage of pot magnets: the combination of the magnet and the steel cup diverts and strengthens the field lines. The result is industrial magnets that have a very strong holding force on the free adhesive surface. At the same time, the remaining surfaces are shielded and no magnetic force penetrates to the outside.
In raw magnets, the field lines are not bundled and run “freely” around the magnet. In the case of a neodymium disc magnet, both circular outer surfaces have a magnetic force. The neodymium flat pot, on the other hand, only has an adhesive force on the free adhesive surface.
Threaded neodymium pot magnets and their properties
Threaded neodymium pot magnets have a very flat design. Thanks to the steel cup, the field lines are concentrated on the holding surface, which ensures very high magnetic forces. Most of these flat pot magnets are threaded, but they are also available in a raw version without a thread. Magna-C's neodymium industrial magnets have galvanized steel casings and nickel-plated magnets. Just like raw magnets made of neodymium, the magnet systems are heat-resistant up to 80°C. If your application involves higher temperatures, we recommend using temperature-resistant magnet systems. These are usually made of samarium cobalt or AlNiCo.
In our magnet shop, we offer raw magnet systems and a range of mounting options for flat grippers:
- with internal thread
- with threaded bushing
- with threaded stud
- with cylindrical countersink
- with conical countersink
Since neodymium magnet systems are mostly used for temporary fastenings, we have recently added flat grippers with hooks or eyelets to our range.
Strong industrial magnets: the use of neodymium flat grippers
The high adhesive force despite small dimensions allows a wide range of possible applications. In particular, neodymium flat grippers are used in industry for temporary fastenings. They help to lift and transport steel and iron parts and can be used to separate metal particles from granulate. Neodymium flat grippers are also extremely popular in trade fair construction, at the point of sale or in advertising technology. When attached to the back of banners, signs and displays, they can be quickly replaced. Since the magnetism does not disappear over time, neodymium pot magnets with a thread are extremely durable. Since the intended use can also be changed, neodymium pot magnets prove to be a valuable and, in the long run, cost-saving resource.
At Magna-C, you can buy strong industrial magnets in high quantities at affordable bulk prices. Trust in 50 years of experience in the magnet industry – certified according to TÜV ISO 9001.
