Electromagnets
The term electromagnet encompasses all devices that generate a magnetic field when voltage is applied. This magnetic field is formed by a coil that generates magnetic poles when current is supplied.
We basically distinguish between two types of electromagnets:
Electromagnets in the standard version only acquire their magnetic force when a current flows. They are nonmagnetic in the idle state and require current to develop their holding force.
Permanent magnets electrically switchable are permanent magnets that are magnetic in the de-energized state and lose their magnetic force when voltage is applied.
