Areas of application
These magnets combine the advantages of permanent magnets with the flexibility of an electromagnet. They are used in numerous applications where reliable holding force is required without a continuous power supply, but where simple control to release the load is desired.
The way they work is based on the principle of magnetic flux control:
In its normal state, the permanent magnet generates a constant magnetic field that securely attracts metallic loads. A coil is wound around this permanent magnet, which also generates a magnetic field when a current flows through it. This opposing field reduces or neutralizes the magnetic field of the permanent magnet, causing the holding force to disappear or be greatly weakened.
