Areas of application
Electromagnetic bars form their magnetic field after the application of a current flow and are not magnetic without current. We learn at school that when a current flows through a magnetic conductor, a weak magnetic field forms around it.
The modern electromagnet consists of a coil (the magnetic conductor) that is wound around a ferromagnetic material to amplify the magnetic field that is created. The coil is built into a steel pot and encapsulated with potting compound. The protective steel pot is also magnetically conductive and directs the magnetic field lines to the free holding surface.
Electromagnets are indispensable in today's industry. The ability to generate a strong magnetic field at the push of a button is used in a variety of industries:
- Material handling: Electromagnet bars are indispensable tools for industrial material handling, as they can effortlessly lift and transport ferromagnetic loads such as steel plates or metal beams. They are often mounted on cranes or lifting devices to make the flow of materials in warehouses, production plants or port facilities more efficient. The ability to switch the magnetic field on and off with precision means that loads can be held securely and positioned exactly. In addition, the ground holding surface protects your workpiece.
- Assembly and manufacturing: In assembly and manufacturing processes, electromagnet holding strips are often used to fix or move workpieces during processing. They provide a stable support without damaging the workpiece, particularly in metal processing, such as welding, drilling or milling. Electromagnets are also useful in the production of complex assemblies because they can precisely position different metal parts together.
- Automation technology: In robotic systems and automated conveyor systems, electromagnetic holding strips are installed to grip, move and deposit metallic components in a targeted manner. They offer the advantage of being flexibly integrable into existing systems and help to standardize workflows and make production lines more efficient.
